The Shoemaker of Havana

A revolutionary epic musical by NUWORKS: theatre made in Australia

Friday 28 Jun 2024 at 7:30 PM

An enthralling historical cocktail, steeped in the rhythms of samba and tango.

Alvaro Garcia is 72 years of age. He has made shoes for six decades. Alvaro has made shoes for Fidel Castro, Raul Castro and Che Guevara; shoes that helped the architects of the Revolution samba and tango their way through The Bay of Pigs Invasion and the Cuban Missile Crisis. Sixty years on and the Revolution has stalled.

Che is dead, Fidel is dead, Raul has stepped aside.

Alvaro has made a decision. He must leave Cuba. Why? Because he must take his shoes to the world before he too dies.
